The Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling requires a minimum of 24 contact hours from an ABEC Approved Event within last three (3) years.

Yes. Per ABEC policy, supervision courses must be 24 hours from an approved NBCC provider. Empower Continuing Education’s approved continuing education provider number is ACEP no 7375.

Yes. As found on the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling’s website:
“LPC-Ss must now accrue CE hours in supervision to maintain their LPC-S credential.
Per ABEC Administrative Rule 255-X-3-.03(3)(h):
Recertification. Recertification/renewal of the LPC-S certification will be a part of the LPC license the LPC-S is based upon. A separate renewal of the LPC-s is not necessary.
Maintenance of the Supervisor status shall require that the LPC-S accrue a minimum of five (5) formal contact clock hours of relevant professional and continued education devoted to supervision during each two-year renewal cycle of the accompanying LPC license. These five (5) hours cannot be from the Continuing Education Credit for LPC-Supervisors. These five (5) hours can count as a part of the required forty (40) hours or continuing education for LPC licensure renewal.LPC-S’s who fail to renew their LPC license each two-year period with the required five (5) hours devoted to supervision content must reapply to the Board for Supervising Counselor status.
Review of LPC-S’s compliance for continuing education in supervision will be a part of the LPC audit process.”

Once you complete the 24 hour supervision course, you can apply to become a supervisor through ABEC. Once they receive your application, you can expect it to be reviewed at the following board meeting. These meetings typically take place every two months-check their calendar here.
It is recommended that your application be submitted at least 30 days prior to the scheduled board meeting in which you’d like it to be considered.
