Domestic Violence is a complicated and tragic issue experienced by many of our clients. Often, this issue stays hidden within the home of our clients, leaving counselors with only partial information guiding their strategies in the therapeutic process. Knowing the subtle but common behaviors and beliefs of this dynamic can que a counselor into its presence within relationships and give a much needed advantage when treatment planning and selecting therapeutic strategies.

Objectives:

Participants will be abe to identify common language utilized by perpetrators and victims of domestic violence outside the context of their relationship.

Participants will be able to identify common behaviors exhibited by perpetrators of domestic violence when interacting with people outside of their abusive relationship.

Participants will be able to apply strategies for assisting clients in recognizing abuse within their relationship.
